MS Dhoni is one of the best captains in the history of the Indian cricket team. He is a professional cricketer who was a batsman and Wicketkeeper and captained the Indian team in all formats for ten years. He is considered one of the best cricket captains in the world. Under his captaincy, India successfully regained its dominance over world cricket by winning some major trophies. He led India to win the ICC world cup in 2011, the ICC T-20 world cup, the Champions Trophy, etc. MS Dhoni has many awards and honours to his name, proving why his fans worship him like a god in cricket.
Personal Life
MS Dhoni married Sakshi Singh Rawat on 4 July 2010 and has one daughter. In the past, he has been vocal about how he is passionate about the Indian Army and why he is such an enthusiast. He also said it was his dream to join Army. That is why the honour Parachute Regiment awarded him with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In addition, he has won awards such as Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, and Khel Ratna award for his contribution to the Indian cricket team for over a decade.
Start Of His Career
MS Dhoni was born in Ranchi in a middle-class family on 7 July 1981. He was fond of playing football and pursuing a career in it, but he somehow got into the Commando Cricket Club due to his excellent keeping skills. He then started focusing on cricket, and due to his performance, he got selected for U-16 Vinoo Mankad Trophy, where he performed. In 1998 he made his professional cricket debut by playing for the Central Coal Fields team. There he was given a chance to bat in the higher order, where he got more time to score runs and impressed the coaches. He was soon selected for Cooch Behar Trophy when he was just 19 years of age and helped the team reach in finals.
He also started playing Ranji Trophy for Bihar in 1999 and scored 68 runs in his debut match. He kept scoring well in the tournament and scored his maiden century in that tournament. For a couple of years, he kept on playing in a tournament where the Indian coaches recognized him, and they selected him for India A squad. He played a couple of matches against Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Pakistan A teams and did well behind the stumps.
International Debut
After performing well in India A team, he was selected for Bangladesh’s Indian national team tour in 2004/05. However, he could not perform as everyone expected him to as he got run out and wasn’t able to make an impact on his international debut. But a breakthrough in his career came when he was selected for the Pakistan tour and scored a half-century in the second match of the series despite poor performance. Later he scored the highest run by Indian Wicketkeeper-batsman, and then he never looked back and kept growing throughout his career.
He then played for India for a couple of years, and due to the lack of a captain figure in the team, he was given the major responsibility of captainship following the World T-20. He did not disappoint the Indians as he won the first major trophy of his career. After this, MS Dhoni became one of the best batsmen globally, and India has been witnessing some of the best performances of the Indian team in cricket since his arrival. He then led the Indian team to quench the thirst for the World cup by winning it in 2011. Again, he proved why he is one of the best captains in the world.
IPL Career
MS Dhoni was bought by Chennai Super Kings for the first season of IPL, and not only this, and he was the most expensive player to be bought by any team in the IPL. Under his captaincy, CSK managed to win four IPL trophies in the year 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021. Apart from it, he led the team to finals nine times out of fourteen seasons. He is one of the most successful captains and a player of IPL. He is known for his lethal batting and is trusted when the team is chasing a high total. He has led his team to victory single-handedly by performing well several times in the past.
That is why he is considered one of the best finishers of limited cricket. Due to his calm and composed nature, even in one of the most stressful situations and taking the best and smartest decisions on the cricket field, he is known as Captain Cool.
