Jasprit Bumrah is an Indian fast bowler who is a regular and key player of the Indian team in all three formats of cricket. He is a right-handed fast bowler who has set new pace levels for the Indian cricket team. Starting With Domestic Cricket
Jasprit Bumrah was born in 1993 and is from Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He started taking cricket training from a very young age and knew he wanted to play it professionally. Thus after performing well at junior level cricket, he got the chance to make his debut in domestic cricket in 2013. He played for Vidarbha and had unusual bowling action, which was deceptive for the batsmen facing him for the first time.
He did well in the domestic tournament and helped his team win the title, where he was awarded man of the match. His performance attracted the selectors of Mumbai Indians, one of the IPL franchises. Thus he was later picked up by Mumbai Indians, and since then, he continued to become a better and better and more mature bowler, which he is today.
IPL Debut
He first made his debut in IPL 2013 against RCB in some fashion. His first over was against India’s greatest batsman Virat Kohli, and he hit three boundaries continuously in Bumrah’s over. But on the fourth bowl, Bumrah bowled Virat Kohli and could not ask for more on his debut. He further managed to take two more wickets. During his debut match, he caught everybody’s eyes and showed his potential with the bowl. Slowly and gradually, he became one of the key players of the Mumbai Indians, and now he has been part of Mumbai Indians for over a decade.
He is thus one of the most expensive bowlers of IPL too. Following the IPL 2022, he was retained by the Mumbai Indians for Rs 12 Crores. Following IPL 2022, the team paid tribute to Jasprit Bumrah for being part of the Mumbai Indians franchise for over a decade and continuing to perform well to help them win titles. International Career
Jasprit Bumrah’s tremendous bowling style and performance at the start of their IPL career in 2014 and 2015 earned him a spot on the national team. He debuted for the Indian cricket team in January 2016 in an ODI match against Australia. Later in that series, he got his first T-20 cap too. He did not take too long to settle at the international level as he continued to perform well and became the highest wicket-taker bowler in a single calendar year in 2016. He took 28 wickets in all T-20 matches to achieve this success. Thus he soon grabbed the permanent spot in the Indian bowling lineup and began playing continuously in every tournament and series.
In 2017 he became the player of the match when he picked two wickets in England. He also made headlines on the Sri Lanka tour when he took the highest number of wickets taken by any player in the bilateral series. It took him a couple of years to make his debut in test cricket, and finally, he played his first international test match on 5 January 2018 against South Africa. In that series, he also took his maiden five-wicket haul and thus bowled well in the entire series. Later, when India toured England for the test match series, he took his second five-wicket haul. As a result, he made a record for the most number of wickets taken by a debut bowler in test calendar years in Indian cricket history. He also played in the world cup in 2019 and completed his ODI 100th wicket in the tournament. Jasprit Bumrah also is among the five Wisden cricketers of the Year for 2022.
