Dinesh Karthik is a famous Indian batsman and wicketkeeper who plays for Royal Challenger Bangalore in the IPL. He has shown his batting talent to the world from time to time and has been in and out of the Indian team. He plays domestic cricket for Tamil Nadu and is also the team’s captain. Overall, he has played well throughout his entire career in domestic and international careers. Domestic Cricket Career

Dinesh Karthik made his first-class debut in 2002 when he played against Baroda. His first season went decent, but soon he was dropped out of the domestic team due to poor performance in batting and wicket keeping. But he came back strongly and performed well in the next zonal tournaments and therefore was selected for India u -19 team to play three ODIs against Nepal. He continued training and worked under former Indian wicketkeeper Kiran More, who improved his wicket-keeping skills. As a result, he did well in Ranji Trophy in the 2003-04 season, scoring 438 runs in the tournament and two centuries.

 Following this run, he played in the Under 19 cricket world cup and scored two centuries. Since then, he has played extremely well in domestic cricket and is now the captain of Tamil Nadu. His most successful domestic cricket season came in 2008-09 when he scored over 1000 runs in which he scored five centuries. Due to his important contributions, his team was successful in reaching the semi-final stage of the tournament. After this great season, he has managed to score runs at the domestic level with a batting average of 40.

Karthik In IPL

Dinesh Karthik started playing IPL from the first season of the IPL and was bought by Delhi Daredevils. He scored 145 with a 24 strike rate in the inaugural season of IPL. He played for Delhi Daredevils for around three years, then joined the Kings XI Punjab for the 2011 IPL making him the second most expensive player in the Kings XI Punjab. Mumbai Indians bought Dinesh Karthik for over 2 million dollars, and during his time in Mumbai Indian, he won his first and only IPL trophy so far. He then went on playing for Multiple franchises like Gujarat Lions, KKR, etc. He played last IPL for KKR and made around 223 runs taking seven catches.

Seeing his performances in the limited over cricket and in the IPL, he is considered one of the smart finishers and great batsman of IPL and T-20s. Following IPL 2022, he was bought by RCB for approximately 5.5 crores rupees. Start Of His International Career

Dinesh Karthik has been in and out of the team due to his form and because of the lack of position of wicketkeeper in the national squad. He made his test cricket debut against Australia in October 2004. But he could not perform as expected in his first series but was applauded because of his wicket-keeping skills. He got the chance to play the 2004 ICC champions trophy, and then he was out from the national team for a couple of years. It was tough competition between MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik, who were fighting for a spot on the Indian Cricket team.

Dinesh Karthik then kept on playing one or two matches in multiple India tours but could not book his permanent spot in the team. However, he got selected for the 2007 Cricket World cup but did not play any single match in the tournament. Dinesh Karthik was more successful in limited over cricket rather than test matches. He has played over 90 ODIs and 30 T-20 matches so far. He has helped the Indian cricket side whenever their main keeper and batsman, MS Dhoni was not available. He played a crucial role when India was struggling to get back on winning streaks. Recently Dinesh Karthik played his 150th international match for India and was part of India’s Squad for the 2019 ICC cricket world cup.
